D&D Live Session #3
I attended my 3rd in person session of D&D. In this session we are traveling by giant bird ๐ฆ to a sunken city. All calculations for weight have been accounted for, we leave our heavy armor behind. Our "skilled in spells" dwarf has promised us we will not go hungry once he casts his spell so we don't need food or ration. Our swamp lady uses her basket ๐งบ weaving skills to create a giant saddle basket. We load up and make our first leg (wing ๐)of the journey and stop at the bridge. We have a map, created by my fellow members and the DM points out areas our group has been previously. At the bridge we encounter fellow employees/soldiers. Apparently I work for a company and someone called Steve. This is news to me, I was just an Elf who left home on a scouting mission to find any potential threats and form allies. When I joined this group they forgot to mention their employer. I have not received my paycheck so I'm unsure of my pay, but I continue on because my group is actually helping on my quest to repopulate the forest.
Does this sound funny? It is funny, I'm having a lot of fun with this group. I believe my campaign has 38 people signed up and we basically pitch ideas to the group, if 2 or more people are interested we can create a session and the DM will use the little information she is given to create our story, game play and combat scenario.
After talking to more friends I realize this is not typical game play. Most campaigns have a more rigid narrative and quest. You are tasked with speaking with villagers or going to a tavern for information. Players work together to solve the quest and then the game is over.
We have several side quests happening at the same time. Sometimes we meet within a short time to continue, other times we are side tracked and return in a couple months. At this point I think we have participated in some odd, specific, and comedic events. We can reference to prior sessions but only those who are playing in this campaign will understand all the nonsense and inside jokes. Weirdly I find myself amongst my people.
