The Solo Adventurer's Toolbox

 

The Solo Adventurer's Toolbox is another resource to help play D&D with out a Dungeon Master. The 167 page pdf guide was written by Paul Bilmer for D&D 5th edition compatible games.  At first glance it has a lot of great tips and suggestions to advance game play.  You are given a series of yes/no questions to determine  where your character is going.  Several tables are provided where you will roll and determine mode of transportation, terrain, weather, type of settlement. Then more complex tables for wilderness, urban, and dungeon encounters. Chapter 7 explains how to generate quests. Overall this seems like an easy and useful tool.  Keep in mind early editions of D&D came with solo players instructions so newbies could learn to play or practice.  I will definitely be giving this a try.  Results to follow in a future post.

D&D Live Session#4

 I attended my #4 session of D&D live.  This session we were recruited by "Steve" to retrieve a bird statue from the sunken city.  We were also looking for a bird lady corpse and other sunken treasure.  What's the saying 3 birds, 1 stone? It was an easy sell, everyone from the previous mission signed on with a plus one.  Kalina took a break from her newly found freedom (her rumspringa). She is busy bartering and making deals for her upcoming trip to the dooms day vault.  She has been busy gathering seeds, researching flowers, plants, trees, teaching herself botanical watercolor.  She also has taken a liking to fine jewelry and metal smithing. She is weary of her knowledge of the great celebrimbor and his part in the current state of the world.  Her jewelry must be kept secret, but that's how all great downfalls start with secrets that turn into lies.  I'm a little confused as to how last time it took us hours to travel to the sunken city ...

Solo Dungeon and Dragons

 I'm not sure why a female has so many issues finding a D&D group willing to let her play. In my experience I've been able to join the group but there is never an open spot for me. After a year of "trying" to join a campaign in 2019 unsuccessfully, I became determined to become a Dungeon Master (DM) and start running my own games. Unfortunately, 2020 rolled around and covid hit. I was able to play The Land, a RPG (Role Playing Game) created by a local New Jerseyan. I had to make my character twice since it was not saved over when moving to the new server. I played one campaign through a combination of discord and roll20. Somehow something was still missing, the virtual avenue was not for me. Although I realized I enjoyed character creation. Next in 2025 I spend a year running D&D through a women's sci-fi group I was already a member of. We started by playing the D&D card game Dungeon Mayhem. D&D Live Session #5

  Bringing water, red bulls, and snacks definitely helped me get through this session. Your in person rations are just as important as your in game rations. At least I wasn't falling asleep and dehydrated at the end of this session.  Our party decided to go back to visit a town we saw while traveling to the sunken city.  Our boss gave us gifts/ bribes to offer the local townspeople.  We were sidetracked even before reaching the town, we stop to look at a glimmer of a battle taking place between ghosts armies. Before we could decide what to do, a band of goblins descend upon us. The leader is holding a wild boar by a rope. Kalina decides to attack a goblin first since she believes the board is harmless.  I combine my longbow, hunters mark and dreadful strike to kill a goblin.  I'm learning how to combine attacks, referencing the player's handbook helps.  Unfortunately after a couple rounds of attacks, the boar breaks free and attacks Kalina.  My ar...
